Bartonella and Cardiovascular Diseases

چکیده
Cardiovascular Diseases Caused by Bartonella The main cell target for Bartonella infection is the endothelial cell which lines capillaries and the cardiovascular system. Bartonella attach to and penetrate endothelial and other cells which protects the bacteria from immune attack and stimulates the formation (angiogenesis) of new blood vessels. Thus, it is not surprising that some of the Bartonella-induced diseases occur in the cardiovascular system, especially in the heart.

Bartonella infection associated with systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
A 4-year-old girl with systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis had Bartonella infection diagnosed serologically. This case suggested that Bartonella (most probably Bartonella henselae) infection may in part be responsible for the development of systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
متن کاملPrevalence of Bartonella infection among human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients with fever.
Bartonella infection can be difficult to diagnose, especially when it manifests as bacteremia, which is usually accompanied by nonspecific symptoms, such as fever. Therefore, we hypothesized that Bartonella infection represents an underrecognized cause of febrile illness. To determine the prevalence of Bartonella infection among patients presenting with fever, we evaluated 382 patients in San F...

Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii has not been detected previously in white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). We tested whole blood from 60 white-tailed deer for Bartonella spp. DNA; three (5%) were positive for Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii. This is the first detection of Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii in white-tailed deer.

Bacillary angiomatosis and the related disorders of bacillary peliosis hepatis and bacillary splenitis are manifestations of infection with Bartonella henselae and Bartonella quintana in immunocompromised persons. B. henselae infection, but not B. quintana infection, is linked to contact with cats and is presumed to cause visceral cat-scratch disease. We reports a case of visceral infection by ...

Until recently, there were only two recognised human diseases caused by Bartonella spp.: trench fever due to B. quintana and Carrion’s disease due to B. bacilliformis. Since then, Bartonella spp. have been recognised as causative agents of further human diseases, including bacillary angiomatosis, cat-scratch disease, chronic bacteraemia, chronic lymphadenopathy, meningoencephalitis, stellar ret...
